Is Phil backing Holly for This Morning?

Make your mind up, Phillip Schofield! The last we read, the This Morning presenter was well up for Myleene Klass replacing Fern Britton as his co-host on the ITV1 breakfast show. Well, that was the rumour, anyway.

Now the star is keen for his Dancing on Ice co-host and fellow Twitter addict Holly Willoughby to join him in the hot seat. “Phil is determined to have a say in who gets the job,” said a source. “It’s no secret he and Fern are no longer best mates. He has a great time doing Dancing on Ice with Holly, so the chemistry is there.”

Hmmm, well they’ve proved they can work well together – but then the same could be said of Phil’s Broom Cupboard co-host Gordon the Gopher. Meanwhile, in other Schofe news, the 47-year-old has taken a break from his television duties to treat his mum to a trip to Rome.

Of course, no visit to the Italian capital would be complete without frequent Twitter updates, and Schofe hasn’t disappointed on that front. “Am I the first person to tweet in the Sistine Chapel?!” wondered the star on Saturday, later tweeting: “Just seen Ron Howard in reception, resisted humming the Happy Days theme... Though I'm singing it in my head now.”

But the star hit back at a couple of comments posted on the Daily Mail website on a story about his holiday, tweeting an unceremonious “up yours” to “Raymond from Poole and Claire from London”. The latter had criticised him for “posting pointless updates to some stupid website” - apparently without a hint of irony.
